Bring Back the Bagels: Thanks Sweet Note Bakery For Making It Gluten Free & Vegan

Bagels are a big deal here in the Tri-State. In fact, New York and New Jersey’s rivalry on which makes the best bagels has been going on for ages. So, when the kids had to remove gluten, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts, peanuts and soy from their diet, the good old bagels seemed to the the one that they missed the most.

Over the years, I’ve seen many recipes to “re-create” an allergy friendly version of our favorite bagels. However, I dare not try to make one. Why? I simply can’t mess around with this super basic gluten based flour, yeast, salt and water dough, which is skillfully hand shaped, boiled and then baked.

Then, I came across Sweet Note Bakery Bagels in one of the expos. This company specializes in creating bagels that are free of gluten, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. Their products are also 100% nonGMO, vegan and kosher. Not only do they make sure all the ingredients are allergen free, their facility does not produce or store products that may contain any of the top 8 allergens as well. Yay!!

When the kids tried the bagels from Sweet Note Bakery, they can’t believe that it is almost the same as the “real, gluten filled” bagels they remembered having. Texture wise, the inside is soft and chewy. While the outer crust is crunchy (especially if it was toasted for a few minutes).

As for the flavor, I’ve received three varieties to try. The Plain Bagels taste really authentic. How can I describe it more? My favorite Everything Bagels are loaded with seeds and seasonings. Even Child#3 and #4, who both hate seeded breads can’t get enough of it. Last, but not the least are the Cinnamon Raisin Bagels. I have to say, they didn’t skimp on this one. It has a good amount of plump and juicy raisins. Definitely not the dried ones. The cinnamon is enough to give it a touch of sweetness which still works well with savory spreads or fillings.

Since the bagels come frozen, it stays fresh longer than shelf stable brands. With the versatility of a bagel, this brand has become a staple in our freezer.

  1. I LOOOOVE their bagels! I see a lot of people are looking forward to cinnamon raisin & it’s a personal fav 🙂 I want to try their new naturally colored bagels!

  2. I agree with a number of the other commenter’s with wanting to try the cinnamon raisin bagel first, but the other two flavors sound yummy too:)

    1. This is definitely for you. As you may know two of my children are allergic to top 8 and then some. Good luck

  3. My favorite way to eat bagels is in place of a bun for a hamburger. For that use, the onion or the garlic and herb varieties would be ideal.
