Let the busy schedule begin
On top of the kids’ weekly church choir practices and religious education classes, there are some fun additions to our calendar. Child#1 is also part of her school’s choir and photography club. Child #2 got a nice role in her school’s Fall play. Oh boy! I’ll be hearing Shakespeare and driving to rehearsals for the next two and a half months.
As for the boys, we are still enjoy the days before their respective activities start.
Since I’ll be driving more because of extra curricular activities and Child#1’s new school which is a few towns away, I decided to bring out the slow cooker more often. Last week’s food allergy friendly Perfect Slow Cooker Pot Roast recipe was a huge hit and I think we will have it more often.
“I hate food allergies!”
Last week, Child#3 has said this a few times. We have been managing food allergies for over five years and yes, there are days when it still hurts. I think it has something to do with his sister outgrowing her own dairy allergy a year ago.
This summer, he was hoping to outgrow an allergen. Sadly, his numbers didn’t go down enough for a food challenge.
Since ranting is often a sign of something deeper. I decided to give him some extra time with mom. How do I do that? Well, I was extra nosy with him – what game he was playing, is his homework done, what chapter is he in his book…. Basically asking anything just to start a conversation.
In the process, I admit, I missed some of my writing deadlines. But you know what? It is worth it. I got extra hugs and more detailed stories. A rare occcurence because he’s not much of a talker.
How appropriate was the readings this week? Yes, there are times when things don’t happen as I planned but God definitely knows and gives what I need. To see the beauty, all I have to do is have a thankful heart.
Hi
I saw you tweet about fashion and I thought I’d checkout your website. Looks like Rozelyn DeSagun has come a long way. Keep up the good work.
Do checkout my blog http://www.senseiteve.com too.
Thank you so much Anubhuti. Enjoying your blog as well.
Food allergies are so tough! My now 8-y/o struggled with his for several years as well and we’re just now starting to see improvement after working hard to heal his gut. It’s so frustrating for kids to not see any movement – praying it comes quickly for you all!
Thank you. What are your child’s allergies? My oldest outgrew all her allergies when she reached puberty. Hope yours will outgrow them too.
How disappointing no one in my family has allergies but I have lots of friends who do and their kids. I know outgrowing them is something they all look forward to!
I can only imagine how hard it must be for those with food allergies. That verse is very fitting for so many challenging situations.
I am just starting to learn about allergy friendly homes and food options. I haven’t had to experience it but a child in my youngest son’s class has a peanut allergy so I am trying to be aware of what we send into school with him for food. I see there are options that work well for families once they adjust to it 🙂
I’m glad you were able to spend some extra time with your son. I can see how those food allergies would be frustrating.
I have a lot of friends and family with allergies so I’m going to have to try making your pot roast recipe sometime soon!
I grew up with a bunch of food allergies, which could be such a pain. Luckily pregnancy changed my immune system a bit and now my list of foods to avoid is a bit shorter.
That’s great news. What are your allergies?
I imagine food allergies can be very hard. I have a coconut allergy but it has never really bothered me because I don’t like coconut!
That must have been so disappointing for him to find out he didn’t outgrow one of his allergies. Extra hugs always help!
