A Peek into Our First Week of 2019

The first week of 2019 was quite a transition. I’m sure most of you will agree with me that going back to work or school on January 2 which happen to fall on a Wednesday definitely made us feel a bit off.

For starters, staying up really late on December 31 is a family tradition. Not only do we wait and watch that fancy ball to drop in Times Square, we also have Media Noche (midnight feast) afterwards to welcome the New Year.

Usually it takes about three days for us to recover and to go back to our regular sleeping hours. Since it didn’t happen this time, I felt that all of us navigated the rest of the week like walking zombies. But hey, we made it!

If you’ve been following me on my Instagram stories, you might also noticed that the children’s lunches were mainly leftovers from our Media Noche. What more can you expect from a frugal, allergy mom? I can’t wait to start cooking again.

A tragedy that’s close to home

Last week, the story of a local child (yes he’s from a nearby town) who passed away possibly from a severe allergic reaction caused the smell of cooking fish hit the headlines.

It was so big that my husband who is always mum about allergies shared it in his FB timeline. Even the men in our badminton club can’t stop talking about it. They can’t believe that the mere scent of food can be fatal.

So, what’s a food allergy mom got to do? Educate. Casually, I joined in the conversation and say that it does can happen. I told them that one of my daughter’s friends who is also allergic to fish and shellfish. He can’t go to Hibachi places or restaurants that have an open grill and serves seafood. The smoke/scent alone can result to hives and breathing difficulties .

I further explained that it’s not an ethnicity related thing. The child is actually of Filipino descent. Heck, there was an incident when my husband experienced breathing difficulties and itching while my friends and I were enjoying Maryland crabs. He didn’t eat it us and was all the way at the other end of a long table.

What I’m Loving

Chinese Drama on Neflix and Prime Video! Even if I barely understand Mandarin (Yes, I’m reading the subtitle.), I finished three so far – Rise of the Phoenixes, Ashes of Love and Oh My General. I’m not into soaps but I can’t get enough of their amazing costumes and flawless complexion.

Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth Powder – Vanilla Flavored. I’ve been adding this collagen in my morning coffee and I can’t get enough. It tastes really good.

My Living Well Planner. Not only is it pretty, I can easily customize the dates and pages. Each month also has a specific goal planner and tracker which is help me focus on what’s important.

How was your 2019 so far?
