As a mom managing a house full of family members with allergies, fancy bed sheets don’t even have a spot in our shopping list. If the need to get new beddings arises, my budget for a full comforter and sheet set does not go over $50. Do you get the picture?
While the silky feel of the more expensive sheets is something I covet, the cost is a big hindrance. Plus, I don’t see any excuse to get one aside from it being a “luxury” item.
Then, a few months ago, I was contacted by PerfectLinens, to give their new line of sheets called Ditch the Itch for one of my kids who are suffering from eczema.
At the back of my mind, I was a bit skeptical. Bed sheets for eczema? We’ve been using 100% cotton for years. What else can this sheets offer?
Anyway, I took the plunge and agreed to try the sheets. After all, the company offers a 45 Night Love it guarantee. That alone got me really curious.
What makes the Ditch the Itch line of sheets special? According to their website,
- It is triple patented for smoothness. So smooth that it’s hospital recommended for extreme skin sensitivity.
- The only sheet certified by the FDA as an eczema product with a 510(k) clearance as a Class 1 Medical Device for relief from skin irritations such as dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.
- Has a durable anti-microbial finish that inhibits germs and bacteria.
- The mid weight fabric is temperature neutral.
When I received the Ditch the Itch sheets, I was really surprised how smooth it is. The only thing that’s close to it are silk sheets except that the Perfect Linens aren’t as slippery or shiny.
After washing it for the first time, (without any fabric softener), I noticed that it dries really fast even if it is hang dried. While it’s not wrinkle free, there are no hard creases.
I love how the fitted sheet stays on after my boys jumped and played on the bed. The elastic is really sturdy too.
The true test is Child#1’s opinion. She’s been suffering from eczema all her life. She’s now 13 and her eczema is well controlled. That is all the triggers are properly managed except for extreme temperature changes which is very common here in New Jersey.
According to her, the Ditch the Itch sheets, aside from being very smooth is very friendly to her skin. The fibers do not irritate her skin. The sheets also adapt to the temperatures. During the summer months, it feels cool. Now that it’s winter, the sheets don’t feel as cold. If you like flannel sheets, this one isn’t as warm though.
Also, even though it is silky smooth, it doesn’t cling to the skin. This makes it really comfortable especially when her skin is really dry. The pillow cases are a big help during summer months because it doesn’t irritate the skin around her neck.
It has been almost a year since we got the Perfect Linens sheets. After countless washes, the feel is still the same as the first time we tried it. At $169 for a full sheet set with two pillow cases, it is way pricey than what I would normally pay for beddings. The comfort it brings to my daughter though is definitely worth the price. Not only did it helped her avoid scratching during eczema breakouts, it did help her sleep better.
I’m very happy with the quality of these sheets too. Yes, it is an investment but a good one.
