Series: I’m Thankful For Outgrowing Dairy Allergy + A ProYo Smoothie Recipe & Giveaway

It’s almost Thanksgiving Day and one thing I am most thankful for this year is that Child#2 has outgrown her dairy allergy. If you haven’t seen the story I wrote last summer, you can read this post entitled Bittersweet Day at the Allergist. What’s with the title? Well, you have to read it to know why.

Now that 3 out of the 4 kids are able to consume regular dairy items, I have to admit, it helped my food budget quite a bit. More importantly, Daughter2 has added a major food group in her diet. Even if she’s still allergic to wheat, egg, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, shrimp and sesame, her food options increased tremendously.

Reintroducing dairy products after years of not having any is another challenge on its own. Regular cow’s milk for instance, is still out of the picture as she can’t tolerate the taste. Same thing with most dairy based yogurts or smoothies.

Then, at the GFAFExpo this year,  she got the chance to taste ProYo Frozen Treats. Like her youngest brother, she can’t get enough of it.

Available in 4 amazing flavors, blueberry pomegranate, vanilla, banana vanilla and chocolate, ProYo Treats are low in fat, high in protein, diabetic friendly, loaded with prebiotics/probiotics and is a good source of fiber.

I love that it is also certified gluten and soy free. It also doesn’t contain any allergens like egg, tree nuts and peanuts, kosher GMO free, plus no added hormones.

To those who are very particular about the facility, ProYo Treats boxes have a warning label says “It contains milk.” and “This product is processed in a facility that also processes eggs, peanuts, soy and wheat.”

Of course, I did contacted them about it and here’s what I got from them.

Hey Rozelyn,

I heard back from the operations team and can confirm that ProYo is produced on a gluten-free line, and following Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO) certification standards the manufacturing team follows ongoing testing procedures to make sure the lines and final product are free from gluten proteins/allergens, down to 10ppm.
As the product is produced on a ‘milk approved’ line and contains dairy, our packaging also says that the product contains milk/dairy.

Furthermore, ProYo’s SQF Level 3 approved facility also provides reassurance that we follow the strictest of allergen procedures and policies. No allergens are allowed near our approved lines. Additionally, the manufacturing team follows strict cleaning procedures before and after every ProYo shift to maintain our allergen-free standards.

Since Child#2 is the pickiest fruit eater, (She’s actually the one who told her Pediatrician that the fruits she eats are Banana Bread, Apple Pie, Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Cake…etc.), I rely on Smoothies to sneak in that food group. This Tropical Smoothie is her current favorite even though she’s not a fan of the fruit flavors in it. (5 points for Mom!)
