As a busy mom of 4 active children, staying hydrated especially this hot summer months is very important to me. Whether you or your kids are playing sports, driving around, enjoying outdoors or even staying inside air conditioned rooms, the warmer temperatures can take a toll on the body.
While water is still one of my preferred options to stay hydrated, there are times when that (even if it is infused with fruits) is not enough. The more we sweat, the more we need to replenish the body not only with water but with vitamins and minerals as well. That’s where sports drinks should come in.
Yet, in spite of the benefits of sports drinks, I tend to stay away from them because the questionable ingredients most leading brands contain — artificial flavors, colors, other unhealthy fillers. Remember the brominated vegetable oil issue?
So, I was contacted by BODYARMOR to give their product a try, I have to admit I don’t have much expectations. After all, how can you make sports drinks better?
After 2 weeks of scrutinizing and tasting, my kids and I agree that BODYARMOR can be added in our TFMApproved list because of these reasons:
- It contains 10% coconut water and has more potassium packed electrolytes and vitamins found in most leading brands.
- It is low in sodium.
- It is made with natural flavors and sweeteners. No artificial colors too.
- Is is certified Gluten Free, Caffeine Free and free of other major allergens.
- It tastes really good. No hint of coconut water at all. Plus no after taste as well.
Though BODYARMOR has 8 flavors namely Tropical Punch, Strawberry Banana, Orange Mango, Grape, Fruit Punch, Blackout Berry, Lemon Lime and Mixed Berry, we were only able to taste 6 (no Blackout Berry and Fruit Punch). The kids agreed that their top pick is the Tropical Punch. Closely followed by the Orange Mango.
One big thing we noticed about BODYARMOR is that it tasted good both chilled and room temperature. A plus for us because we are always outdoors.
