“Once in a while, you’ll come across a book that will inspire you so much that it will become a part of you. “
This is what I truly felt after reading Joyce Shulman’s book Walk Your Way to Better. To start, this book is not about losing weight, managing depression, or even becoming a happier person. According to the author, this is a book about walking your way to better. She is actually encouraging the reader to do some outdoor walking even for just 15 minutes each day.
I know what you’re thinking. Yes, I am not a big fan of walking too. Even though I trained and completed my first (and maybe last) 5K run a few years ago, I still didn’t get the hang of it.
After going through the first 15 pages of the book, I finally realize what the author wanted to convey in this book. Each section which is about two pages long contains information or a short story that was meant to be a thought-starter. She then, asks the reader to walk, process and write. Yes, you need to participate.
Unlike most self help books that only provide instructions, this one was designed to be interactive. By going through the 99 Walks a day at a time, the participant will be able to build a new habit. A habit of prioritizing personal quiet time and reflection. Something that most of us barely does or even avoid.
To be really honest, I didn’t do the 99 walks. Due to time constraints, I read through the book. After I finished, I understood the importance of actually undergoing the process it outlined. That is why I am planning to work though the book and really experience it soon. Is that something you want to do with me?
In the mean time, here’s a chance for you to get your very own copy of the book. Just do the steps below to get free entries. This is open to US residents, 18 years old and up. The giveaway ends on July 10, 2020 11:59 pm EST.
