Book Review: Time to Refresh and a New Year Challenge

Last month, after I came back from visiting my parents, I got a hold of a book called Time to Refresh: A 21-Day Devotional to Renew Your Mind After Being Laid Off, Fired or Sidelined by Karen Brown Tyson. While it’s only 67 pages long, it was probably one of the most difficult books I laid my hands on.

Unlike fictional novels which I can finish in a day or two, this 21 Day Devotional that aims to help one Renew Their Mind After Being Laid Off, Fired or Sidelined caught me off guard.

For starters, I’ve been a long time reader of self help books. In fact, during my college days, I used to be a speaker and training facilitator of student leaders in the university I went to. Next to the Bible, Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People was my daily read.

Over the years, I have gone through many inspiration and devotional writings. There are books that I can go through within hours and there were some that after one chapter, I never held it again.

Time to Refresh caught my interest from the minute I read the Introduction. While the cover seemed a little generic, the content was totally opposite. Honest, relatable and relevant, this book encouraged me to stop and seriously dig deep inside my being.

After being a mom for 15 years now, this book has allowed me go beyond what needs to be done and go back to me — the real me. The person behind the title, the job, the appearance, the achievements and the family background.

Each chapter has a specific verse from the Bible. While you may find the word “God” throughout the book, I think the messages will be helpful and appealing to both religious like me or those who are just into inspiration quotes.

I am so inspired with this book that this coming new year, I will create a special group on Facebook wherein we can all go through this 21 Day Devotional all together. If this is something that interests you, sign up now and I’ll give you updates when the group is set.

The series will start on January 11 but you can get a Time to Refresh book now or give it as a gift.

I’m so excited to with you in this self care journey.

Hugs,
