Allergy Friendly Product Finds: Bucks Natural Cookies

When I attended the 2018 Expo East at Baltimore, Maryland, my goal was plain and simple. That is to find as many Top 8 Allergen Free products as possible. Unlike the previous years, this year’s event didn’t disappoint. From snacks to easy meals, to bath products to skin care and everything in between, I was thrilled to see many new and even established brands targeting the food allergy market.

One of the newest brands I am so excited to share with you is Buck Natural Cookie Co. This New Jersey based cookie company (another reason it caught my attention) though new in the market has been in the food allergy manufacturing industry for quite some time.

After years of providing production services to some food allergy friendly brands, the company finally decided to create their own brand of top 8 allergen free, buckwheat based cookies.  Thus, Bucks Natural Cookies was born.

What Makes it Special

For starters, the company has years of experience in manufacturing allergy friendly products. Not only are they very knowledgeable in food allergy handling protocols, their facility is already certified free of the top 8 allergens namely wheat, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, fish and shellfish.

Also, they took extra steps to make sure that their ingredients will be as safe for us with food allergies. The buckwheat flour which is the main ingredient of the cookies was directly purchased from the Pennsylvania Amish community. By choosing to use local, straight from the farm ingredients, they’re able to safeguard the quality of their products.

The Taste Test

Even with the certifications and manufacturing safety protocols, the true test of the products will boil down to the cookies taste and texture right?

After our family tried the cookies, we all agreed that Bucks Natural is indeed one of the better brands available in the market. Even my husband who’s not a big fan of cookies (whether gluten free or gluten filled) was delighted with the Oatmeal Raisin flavor.

Flavor wise, the cookies are true to what it says. We all liked that it is not overly sweet which makes the flavors shine through. As expected the kids favored the Double Chocolate and Chocolate Chip varieties. My personal favorite though is the Orange flavored ones which is currently out of stock.

Texture wise, the cookies have the right thickness and consistency of what is expected of a “regular” cookies. It is not soft, fudge or brownie like. Even though it is primarily made with buckwheat, it does not crumble or fall apart as most gluten free cookies do. In fact, it can be “dunked” in milk, tea or coffee and still hold its shape.

Since the texture is one of the better ones our family had in years, these cookies are also perfect for making easy desserts. I have successfully used it as pie crusts (in place of graham crackers). It also worked great crumbled for parfaits or layered desserts like ice cream cakes or no bake (refrigerator) cakes.
