Growing up, there’s no better indication of the Christmas season than Holiday themed movies. Back when TV channels are less than ten, (yes kids, I’m not kidding!), I remember the whole family watching well loved classics like Frosty the Snowman and Miracle on 34th Street right after Thanksgiving.
While there are now more movies and channels to choose from, the tradition of watching feel good films as a family lives on.
These year, the kids and I got to watch five new holiday themed DVDs.
Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab Twas the Night Before Liftoff
If you have a science buff, this is a must have. I even enjoyed the science themed music videos. A little heads up, the music sticks to your brain.
Gumby’s Arctic Antics
It is a collection of short shows from the 50’s 60’s and 80’s episodes of well loved clay characters Gumby and Pokey. I have to say, many of which I haven’t seen myself. Yet the kids enjoyed it. Even the 13 year old stayed to finish it.
The Snowman
Based from the best selling book by Raymond Briggs, this movie will warm everyone’s heart. The boys have read the book numerous times when they were younger but the movie made them appreciate the book more.
The Cat in the Hat knows a Lot About Christmas
What more can I say? I don’t know of any child or child at heart who didn’t like a Dr. Seuss story.
The Little Prince The Planet of Gargand
Now, this is something new. The Little Prince is one of my all time favorite books. Though I meant to get a copy for the kids, I haven’t found the right time to introduce them to the story. This film has captured my children’s imagination. I can’t wait to finally let them read the book.
Have you watched any of these movies yet? If not, well, these DVDs are a good addition to your collection. Just like the classics, you and your family can watch this over and over again.
