Rainbow Light: Food Allergy Friendly Kids Multivitamins Review

One of the biggest challenges of living with food allergies or food restrictions is having the right balance of nutrients in the body. When we refrain from eating a certain type of food, it is very important that we find substitutes not only for texture or taste but for nutritional content as well.

In Child#3’s case for example, he has to avoid wheat, dairy, egg, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. Since he’s still in the growing stage, his gastroenterologist recommends yearly blood work to check if he is lacking any of the essential vitamins and minerals the body needs to function properly.

Though I try my best to provide a variety of food for my family, it is impossible to tell if each of us are receiving the right amount of vitamins and minerals our specific bodies need. Plus, each of us tend to have personal preferences in food.

Do you have a meat and potato only child? How about a rice, vegetable and fruit only child? Maybe you also have a snack buffet eater. Whatever type of child we have, I’m sure we can all agree that we are not sure if our kids (or even us), are getting all the proper nutrients daily.

That’s when multivitamin supplements come into the picture.

Now, here’s the tricky part. Did you know that most multivitamins as well as most medications are not properly labelled for allergens? Yes! Most of those with food allergies get sick from medications or supplements because of undisclosed inactive ingredients.

So, when I got an invitation from Moms Meet to try Rainbow Light Gummy Power Sours for my children, I gladly accepted. Just so you know, we have been using a another brand of Kids multivitamins for over 3 years. That brand will be my basis for comparison.

What I liked about Rainbow Light Gummy Power Sours

  • It is free of gluten, dairy, nuts, soy, eggs, fish, shellfish and yeast. (Happy dance FA moms)
  • It does not contain any artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, preservatives or additives.
  • It comes in single serve packets which makes it easy to carry around and it avoids over consumption. (It is very similar to the candy gummy.)
  • It contains the B vitamins, biotin and folic acid.
  • All four of the kids like the taste. It is candy like so who can argue with that. I don’t have to remind them to take their vitamins in the morning. That is a big plus.
  • Packaging box is made from 100% recycled paperboard.
  • Double dose of Vitamin C.

What made me NOT switch to Rainbow Light

  • Rainbow Light Gummy Power Sours only contains 15 vitamins and minerals. It is not a significant source of Calcium and Magnesium. It also doesn’t contain any Iron which is a nutrient we often don’t have enough.
  • Sugar content. Each serving (4 gummies) contains 5 grams of sugar. That’s over 1 tsp. of sugar! While it does make it appealing to the kids, it does sound like a candy too.
  • Absorption. We take multivitamins to supplement our diet. After going through Rainbow Light website, while there were statements on the purity of the ingredients and manufacturing practices, clinical findings about it being absorbed by the body are not available.

While it is safe to say that Rainbow Light is one of the better brands of multivitamins when it comes to the purity of its ingredients, disclosure and labeling, I think it still have some areas to improve on. Particularly, research based benefits of the product.

Though it was a good product to try (and the kids love the taste), we’ll sticking to our trusted multivitamin tablets.

Have you tried Rainbow Light products? I would love to hear what you think.
